The Human Eye vs The Camera
"Portraits of Justice" is now open as a semi-permanent exhibition of courtroom illustration and its history at the Edward J. Schwartz Courthouse in downtown San Diego. Reproductions of sketches of famous trials spanning more than two centuries on display feature Bill Robles, Howard Brodie, Betty Wells, Jane Rosenberg and many others from around the country. Twenty seven artists in total working high profile cases are exhibited.
I was asked to curate this exhibtion, over two years in the making, by The Learning Center of the Southern District of California and the United States District Court Southern District of California. The exhibition includes the history of courtroom illustration, the golden era of courtroom sketching and a special section on the judges of the U.S.District Court of the Southern Distric of California.
The exhibition is part of the outreach program by the United States District Court of Southern Californai to educate the public about the judicial branch of the fedearl government.

Hennessy, Jr., Leo Hershfield, Greg High, Krentz Johnson, Carole Kabrin, Butch Krieger, Jerry Lemenu, Pat Lopez, Arnold Mesches, Franklin McMahon, Gary Myrick, Ruth Pollack-Pappas, Freda Leibowitz Reiter, Bill Robles, David Rose, Jane Rosenberg, Dana Verkouteren, Betty Wells, Brigitte Woosley. Other contributors are J.W. August, Phoebe Hoban, Paul Krueger, Douglas O. Linder and Gina Wohlsdorf.
